North Korea revalues currency, destroying personal savings

It's happening!

TOKYO -- Chaos reportedly erupted in North Korea on Tuesday after the government of Kim Jong Il revalued the country's currency, sharply restricting the amount of old bills that could be traded for new and wiping out personal savings.

The revaluation and exchange limits triggered panic and anger, particularly among market traders with substantial hoards of old North Korean won -- much of which has apparently become worthless, according to news agency reports from South Korea and China and from groups with contacts in North Korea.

The currency move appeared to be part of a continuing government crackdown on private markets, which have become an essential part of the food-supply system in the chronically hungry North.

In recent years, some market traders have stashed away substantial amounts of cash, while establishing themselves in profitable businesses that the government struggles to control.

But under the rules of the new currency system, the wealth of these traders has largely disappeared, unless it is held in euros, dollars or Chinese yuan.

The revaluation replaces 1,000-won notes with 10-won notes but strictly limits the amount of old currency that can be exchanged, news reports said.

According to two Web-based groups with sources in the North, that limit was set Monday at 100,000 won, which at current black-market rates amounts to $40. All North Korean currency that individuals possess in excess of that amount becomes worthless under the revaluation.

Governments of Austria, China, UK, Canada are all bailing out bankrupted companies which is devaluing the currency of these countries. why? why are they paying these companies our tax dollars and they are laying people off and are going to go bankrupt anyway? ex.is Giving GM 33Billion dollors won't make people purchase GM vehicles, will it? I think it would make more sense to spend that money developing new jobs through infrastructure rebuilding projects instead. That way those people who have been laid off have an industry to get employment in and the countries can have improved health, educational & social services, roads, transit systems, renewable energy generation stations etc...
instead they are giving money(they borrowed) to the leaders of these failed companies. Pathetic, illegal and just another indication that the people in power don't have the moral, ethical and even intellectual capacity required to properly govern a country, company or even themselves. THE GOVERNMENT'S JOB IS TO SEE TO WELL BEING OF EACH AND EVERY CITIZEN..this is my understanding. However the government seems to be acting like a corporation whose chief goal as all corporations is to maximize profit for the owners. When a government behaves in this fashion it negates it's duty to take care of the citizens because the citizens are now looked upon as customers or consumers. Thats why its always "consumer confidence is down or consumer spending is up" and thats always the reason for all the problems... we are not buying anything!... why.... because the consumer has been laid off, or just lost half their life savings in the mutual fund plunge, or they are ill and can't afford medication or...blah blah blah... what ever it is there well being is not being looked after and that's what really matters.
LET THESE COMPANIES FAIL and let better ones come up! This crash has to happen if we are to move on. But if these governments keep interfereing there will be a greater depression than the world has ever known. And this is what they want so we will have to accept whatever they propose. Break you then enslave you! all over again. this time financially.

The pick-up was travelling about 75 mph from right to left
when it crashed through the guardrail.

It flipped end-over-end bounced off and across the culvert
and landed right side up on the left side of the culvert,
facing the opposite direction from which the driver was
travelling.

The 22-year-old driver and his 18-year-old passenger
were unhurt except for minor cuts and bruises.
